RADCAMP 2018 info coming soon!
About a year ago someone said to me, "you need to teach lessons on how to be a badass feminist." We both laughed, but that request kept coming and our community kept growing and I found from spending quality time with the Boise Rad Fat Collective in real life that we are stronger together. That we are our own best teachers. That together we learn our voices our powerful, our bodies are amazing, and our spirits are courageous.
I'm so excited to announce that I've received a small grant from NOLOSE, a national intersectional fat positive 501(c)(3), to help launch Idaho's first annual RADCAMP: A Body Positive Boot Camp For Feminists in the beautiful mountain town of McCall, Idaho. The cabin is booked, the food will be delicious, the hot springs are waiting, the agenda is gearing up to be fun and radical and full of self-love.
WHAT IS RADCAMP ALL ABOUT?
Empowering women to be their own badass, an everyday hero, a radical feminist, a body image activist, an enlightened academic, a kinder person and a warrior for self-love. With a little bit of wine, laughter, swimming, art, relaxation, yoga, massage, meditation, education, books, hot springs, good food and fun mixed in. All food, non-alcoholic beverages, accommodations, and itinerary activities are included in the $159 registration fee.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
Registration is very limited (10) and open to members of the Boise Rad Fat Collective (which, by the way, is open to everyone regardless of size, age, nationality, religion, gender, ability and location - just ask for an add on Facebook). You do have to be at least 21-years-old to come to this camp, as we'll have alcohol on site and are staying two nights. RADCAMP is only open to women, due to the accommodations and subject matter.
TELL ME MORE ABOUT THOSE ACCOMMODATIONS?
We'll be staying in a sweet family cabin Amy has rented near downtown McCall, Idaho, a quaint mountain town about 2.5 hours outside of Boise. In true old-school camp style, there are five single beds in one room, a queen, a king, and a fold-out futon. We'll be in close quarters and sharing bathrooms and kitchen duties as well (we'll be cooking, baking and making all our meals together as a way to celebrate food and community). It's going to be like a giant big girl slumber party all weekend.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Once accepted to RADCAMP you'll receive more details from Amy, including a packing list & cabin details, but in general: yourself, your bathing suit, any personal items, any special food items, good walking/hiking shoes, a beach towel and an open-mind (please leave at home: all illegal drugs, firearms/weapons, pets and your kids). It's also BYOB. And some to share.
HOW DO I APPLY?
RADCAMP 2017 is FULL! Registration is closed. Please check this space in January 2018 for next year's camp.

RADCAMP for Teens 2018 info coming soon!
I'm excited to announce the first annual RADCAMP : A Body Positive Boot Camp for Feminist Teens. Do you have a strong girl in your life, too? Join us this June in Boise for an extra special weekend of education and fun. Let's help foster the radical notion that they can love themselves, be proud of their unique traits, set their own beauty standards, and use their voices to change the conversation.
WHAT IS RADCAMP ALL ABOUT?
Here's a great post with images I wrote about the inaugural RADCAMP in 2017.
Researchers and doctors and parents all have found that it's during our early teenage years and puberty that ideas about our bodies can be really solidified. It's a crucial time of change and growth and discovery about who we are. It's also a time when beliefs are formed and ideas are fluid and anything is possible. I've had the honor to speak to lots of young people about being an activist in your own life in big and small ways and how to stand up for what's important - including yourself. It's something I teach all three of my children at home and a message I'm honored and thrilled to share with others.
We'll be spending two days - Saturday June 3rd and Sunday June 4th - from 10am-4pm together learning about self-esteem, body image and using our words and voices to make positive change in the world. To do so, we will be utilizing an amazing workbook, texts, media, movies, art, activism, guest speakers and each other to educate and empower a new generation of Idaho feminists. All activities, supplies, books + snacks provided in the $89 fee (participants will be required to bring their own sack lunch both days). Camp is open to ten girls ages 13-15. It's seriously gearing up to be SO FUN. Thanks to a generous donation from a fundraiser for RADCAMP by LuLaRoe Tami Olsen, along with a few fabulous women who donated from around the country, I was able to offer several full scholarships for girls in need to attend free of charge!
