Pssst! I’m continuing the body positive revolution on Substack!
Some woman commented on a Facebook post of mine last year with a nude feminist portrait of me in my bed calling me “Whorella” and that no one wanted to see my body because it was “nastay” to which I had a few questions:
Is Whorella like Cinderella but sluttier? Like with wide feet and a new bunion so is into wearing Chacos instead of a glass heel? Who’s like down to fuck after midnight? Who wears less clothes but mostly the same leggings but also does a shit ton of unpaid labor? Whose Fairy Godmother is named Karma but who is also desperate to escape the rotten jealous bitches who keep her down?
Then, yes, you can call me Amy, Ms. Whorella if you’re nasTAY-TAY (me channeling both my beloved Taylor Swift and Janet Jackson here)
Also!
Whorella the film with the plot twists I shared above is something Disney might want to consider for new adult content (all the cred goes to me though not that bitch thanks)
My fans and followers laughed so hard with me and called Whorella the cuntiest moniker ever and that I should embrace it with merch and more and one of them made me this some “logos” including this one:
It became one of my favorite troll comments of 2024 and, when, the day after the presidential inauguration on January 20, 2025, I woke up to a message from Facebook saying my 11-year-old public figure business page Amy Pence-Brown-Writer, Artist, Body Image Activist was removed without further evaluation, just days after Mark Z. issued a big statement that Meta had been changed to allow more freedom of speech, less censorship.
Apparently this only applies to some folks, not me.
If you’ve followed me long and you’re one of the 15K folks who liked my public figure page on Facebook or the 31K on my Instagram, thank you for believing in the mission that all bodies are good bodies and that there is no wrong way to have a body. So many of you - including major news organizations and celebrities - have shared my work, learned from it, loved it. While my body image activism really began 16 years ago, when I began my blog Doin' It All, Idaho Style, it took me a few years of reading and learning and creating and talking to get my footing and start using social media as a radical tool in the revolution. And from the beginning I was met with extraordinary push back - I was constantly reported and had images deleted, but almost always I contested that with Facebook and they agreed a mistake had been made and they restored it. Often, however, they put me in "Facebook jail," where I couldn't post, have access to my body positive group of 3,700 folks from around the world, the Boise Rad Fat Collective (I'm currently in Facebook jail as I write, actually). I have been targeted by white supremacist/white nationalist groups in Idaho, by individuals locally and beyond who wanted to harm me, been bullied and harassed to the point the police have been involved several times. I've had people show up to protest my talks and presentations in person, had so many cancelled as a result, been called so many names you wouldn't believe it. But, conversely, the love and joy and acceptance and real change I've made over on that page for so so so many people trumps all of that and will forever in my heart. Thanks again for those of you who have been changed by my work and especially those of you who have shared your private revolutions - or even public ones - with me over the years. You have opened your hearts and pain and joy and fear and sadness and confusion and anger to me in the most vulnerable ways - in my DMs, in tears, in comments, in letters, in art, on the sidewalk, at the grocery store. And even thanks to those of you who have hated me and my body and my ideas over the years as you have made me better, my skin thicker, and, as I've always said, fueled my fire.
Thus, Whorella was (re)born.
Therefore, I won’t be posting here on this blog as often. I’ve moved my writing from here to Substack to create an unedited, unfiltered place away from Meta, a safe place to show up and just be me and get paid for my work. If you’re already subscribed here, you’re also already subscribed there!
